About This Community


Royal Gardens is a lovely community set in Edmonton’s southwest. Bordered to the north by Whitemud Drive, this community has wonderful access to shopping areas such as Southgate to the immediate east, or West Edmonton Mall, which is about ten minutes northwest along Whitemud Drive. The majority of the neighbourhood was built in the 1960’s, which is apparent in the style of homes, large streets, and mature trees.

While there are no commercial hubs within the actual community of Royal Gardens, residents need only cross 40th Avenue to reach the Petrolia Shopping Centre, where there is a large No Frills, the Petrolia Liquor Store, Mini Mart, and the Petrolia Mall, which houses the ABC Child Development Centre Day Care & After School Care, and a Good Stock- one of the city’s most affordable and delicious vegan restaurants!


Just a few minutes drive south along 111 St NW from Royal Gardens is Century Park. Not only is this the location of the Century Park LRT and Transit Station and the Park and Ride, but also a commercial area with restaurants like Brewsters, Starbucks, Spring Roll Kitchen, and Bistecca Italian Steakhouse & Winebar. There is also a Liquor Depot, TD Canada Trust, Rexall, Century Park Dental, Safeway, Spa Lady, and a medical imaging clinic.


Across from Century Park, Heritage Village is the first among a row of commercial hubs along 23rd Ave NW that includes Heritage Square, Heritage Links and Heritage Lane. Following Whitemud drive for a few minutes past Southgate Centre, Royal Gardens residents will find Calgary Trail/Gateway Boulevard, a huge corridor of shopping and restaurants that stretches through the heart of South Edmonton from South Edmonton Common, all the way to Whyte Avenue (82nd Ave NW).


Recreation/Community League/Services


Royal Gardens is a short drive west along Whitemud Drive to Whitemud Creek Ravine, where there are several serene nature trails for hiking, biking, or just walking the dog. MacTaggart Sanctuary Trail Loop is a large and unspoiled nature trail winding along the centre of Whitemud Creek Ravine, a perfect spot for animal and bird watching!


In the northeast corner of the community of Royal Gardens is Whitemud Park, a large sports field attached to Harry Ainley High School. This park is also the location of Confederation Leisure Centre, home to a salt water pool, a whirlpool, and is part of a larger fitness complex where residents will have access to tennis courts, a running track, and an indoor rink.

Transportation


Whitemud Drive, 119 Street, and 111 Street border the community of Royal Gardens. Whitemud Drive provides a quick trip for residents to reach Calgary Trail/Gateway Boulevard.


The neighbourhood of Royal Gardens is conveniently situated near two south side LRT and Transit Centres: Southgate LRT and Transit Centre- just across Whitemud Drive from the community, and Century Park LRT and Transit Centre- a quick drive south along 111 Street from Royal Gardens. There are also very established and efficient bus routs in the area that can bring residents of Royal Gardens to the transit centre.
