The name Rideau is French for curtain, and indeed this community has a curtain of commercial convenience running along its north and western sides. With roadways like Whitemud Drive bordering it at the north, Calgary trail bordering the community to the west, 111 Street providing access to the Anthony Henday, and two LRT stations nearby, getting around Edmonton for the residents of Rideau Park is a breeze! The community was built in the 1970’s and has a great mix of apartment style condos, rowhomes, duplexes, and single-family housing options.

At the northeast corner of the community of Rideau Park is Whitemud Crossing, which is a large complex of shops and restaurants just off of Whitemud Drive. Some of the shops and services in the area include: Shell Shock, Barre Body Studio, a Tailor, a Freedom Mobile location, Sun Life Financial, The Self Centre, The Easy Rider, Whitemud Crossing Chiropractors, and the Whitemud location of the Edmonton Public Library. Several of the awesome restaurants in the complex are, Red Robin, The Provincial Kitchen & Bar, Badass Jack’s Subs & Wraps, and Pho Anh.


At the eastern boundary of the community is Calgary Trail/Gateway Boulevard, encompassing a portion of the fantastic shopping and restaurants included in the commercial corridor that stretches from South Edmonton Common to Whyte Avenue.

 

Conveniently located cross from the southern tip of the community of Rideau Park at 106 Street is the Duggan Mall, a strip of restaurants and services that include JR Bar & Grill, The Three Amigos, Pizza Unlimited & Fried Chicken, a Mac’s convenient store, Sophie’s Nail Salon, a Goodwill Donation Centre, and the Duggan Car Wash.  


Just a few minutes drive south along 111 St NW from Rideau Park is Century Park. Not only is this the location of the Century Park LRT and Transit Station and the Park and Ride, but also a commercial area with restaurants like Brewsters, Starbucks, Spring Roll Kitchen, and Bistecca Italian Steakhouse & Winebar. There is also a Liquor Depot, TD Canada Trust, Rexall, Century Park Dental, Safeway, Spa Lady, and a medical imaging clinic.

 

Just across Whitemud Drive from Rideau Park is Southgate Centre, one of the largest and most recently renovated malls on Edmonton’s south side.

Recreation/Community League/Services


Just across 111 Street from the community of Rideau Park is Whitemud Park, a large sports field attached to Harry Ainley High School. This park is also the location of Confederation Leisure Centre, home to a salt water pool, a whirlpool, and is part of a larger fitness complex where residents will have access to tennis courts, a running track, and an indoor rink.

Rideau Park is a short drive west along Whitemud Drive to Whitemud Creek Ravine, where there are several serene nature trails for hiking, biking, or just walking the dog. MacTaggart Sanctuary Trail Loop is a large and unspoiled nature trail winding along the centre of Whitemud Creek Ravine, a perfect spot for animal and bird watching!


In the same area around Whitemud Creek Ravine is Snow Valley Ski Club, meaning tons of winter fun for the whole family!

Transportation


Whitemud Drive borders Rideau Park to the north, Calgary Trail/Gateway Boulevard to the east, and 111 Street to the west, all of which can be direct routes to the Anthony Henday.


The neighbourhood of Rideau Park is conveniently situated near two south side LRT and Transit Centres: Southgate LRT and Transit Centre (just across Whitemud Drive from the community), and Century Park LRT and Transit Centre (a quick drive south along 111 Street from Royal Gardens). There are also very established and efficient bus routs in the area that can bring residents of Rideau Park to the transit centre.
