Bearspaw is a community located on the southwest side of Edmonton and enjoys a lovely balance of nature and convenience with Blackmud Creek bordering it along the west, South Edmonton Common across its border to the east, and ample access to the Anthony Henday via both 111 Street and Calgary Trail/Gateway Boulevard. Bearspaw was named after Stony Indian Chief Masgwaahisd (bearspaw). Backing onto Bearspaw Lake and Bearspaw Park are many large and lovely homes with the unique style of the 1980’s.

Restaurants/Shops/Boutiques Near Bearspaw

Just along 111 Street from the community of Bearspaw is Century Park. Not only is this the location of the Century Park LRT and Transit Station and the Park and Ride, but also a commercial area where one can access restaurants like Brewsters, Starbucks, Spring Roll Kitchen, and Bistecca Italian Steakhouse & Winebar. There is also a Liquor Depot, TD Canada Trust, Rexall, Century Park Dental, Safeway, Spa Lady, and a medical imaging clinic.

Across from Century Park, Heritage Village is the first among a row of commercial hubs. This commercial row includes Heritage Square, Heritage Links and Heritage Lane. Within these complexes of convenience are a huge variety of restaurants including Boston Pizza, Bogani Café, Good Buddy Chinese, and MacDonald’s, Pipers Pub & Pizza, Good Taste Chinese Szechuan Cuisine, Panago Pizza, Tutti Fruiti Breakfast & Lunch, Dream Tea House, Subway, Little Caesars Pizza, Seasons Hot, Subway, Taiwan Bubble Tea, Panda Hut Express, Tokyo Express, and Pizza 73. Recreation/Community League/Services in Bearspaw

Located along 111 Street from Bearspaw are the Kinsman Twin Arenas and the William Lutsky Family YMCA, which is complete with full gym, pool, summer camps, and programs.

Bearspaw borders the Blackmud Creek Ravine, where residents will find several serene nature trails for hiking, biking, or just walking the dog. MacTaggart Sanctuary Trail Loop is a large and unspoiled nature trail winding along the centre of Whitemud Creek Ravine, a perfect spot for animal and bird watching!

Bearspaw boasts a lovely lake in the centre of a large field, surrounded by walking trails and impressive homes. This is a gorgeous spot for residents to bike or nature watch with the family.  

Just a few minutes drive along 23rd Ave NW and then 119 St NW is the Derrick Golf and Winter Club, one of Edmonton’s premier private golf club and athletic facilities that offer activities and amenities to all ages of its members year-round.

Transportation in Bearspaw

Calgary Trail South and 111 St NW border the neighbourhood of Bearspaw to the east and west, both of which will take residents to either Anthony Henday or Whitemud Drive.

Residents of Bearspaw will enjoy the convenience of living so close to the Century Park LRT and Transit Centre. There are also very established and efficient bus routs in the area that can bring residents of this lovely southwest Edmonton community to the transit centre.
