Windermere is a beautiful new development in Edmonton’s south-west, bordering the North Saskatchewan river along it’s western edge, with fantastic access to the Anthony Henday at its north, Terwilleger Drive at its east, and Ellerslie Road at its south. Lovely ponds and walking trails are interspersed throughout the community, which has a good mix of manicured areas and natural beauty. Windermere has excellent access to public transit, and is just minutes from Currents Windermere, a huge shopping hub of big chains, small boutiques, and a variety of restaurants. Both River Ridge and Windermere Golf and Country Clubs are located just down the hill along the river’s edge.

Located in the heart of Edmonton’s southwest is Currents of Windermere, a huge shopping district offering a variety of big chain stores such as Wal-Mart, London Drugs, Canadian Tire, Cabela’s, Home Depot, Wine and Beyond, Winners and HomeSense to name just a few. It also contains many amenities like massage, dental and doctor’s offices, medical imaging, hair and nail salons, banking, as well as a conveniently located Safeway. For a night-out, Currents of Windermere gives the surrounding communities prime access to Cineplex Odeon Windermere Cinemas and VIP where you can enjoy a glass of wine or beer while watching the latest blockbuster in spacious seating, along with many dining options such as, Brown’s Socialhouse, Chilli’s Texas Grill, Boston Pizza, Montana’s Cookhouse, Red Robins, and (soon-to-come) Milestones and The Keg. For quick dining there is a large variety of take-out, drive-through, and dine-in options, including but not limited to: MacDonalds, Tim Hortons, Quiznos, Starbucks, Coras, and Five Guys Burgers and Fries. Closest to Windermere proper is smaller shopping hub called Windermere Crossing with a wonderfully located Superstore, a tailors, a nail salon, Starbucks, a liquor store, several banks, as well as dining options like: Teriyaki Corner, Subway, Chopped Leaf, Dairy Queen, Panago Pizza, and State and Main. This is another commercial centre within the community that is continuing to grow, with new businesses being added often.

Recreation/Community League/Services

Within Windermere are many ponds and pathways for walking and biking, open green spaces, and playgrounds. This community has easy access to Terwillegar Recreation Centre, a brand-new facility just a five-minute drive down Terwillegar Drive (170th Street SW). This recreation centre has several ice-rinks, an enormous workout facility, a large swimming centre, and several fast-food restaurants.

Tucked along North Saskatchewan River’s edge, at the western-most boarder of Windermere proper, are two beautiful Golf and Country Clubs: River Ridge (both a public and private club) and Windermere Golf and Country Club (exclusively members-only for golf, but does host public events such as parties and weddings). These courses are isolated among the forest and riverbank for an outside-the-city feel.

Windermere is under the umbrella of Greater Windermere Community League that also includes: Ambleside, Langdale, Glen Ridding, West Pointe, Keswick, and Westpoint Estates. The community league hosts many events and activities in the area.

Transportation

Despite being one of Edmonton’s newer and most southwestern communities, Windermere has excellent access to some of the city’s most efficient roadways and bus routes. With the Anthony Henday bordering its northern tip, Terwillegar Drive (170th Street SW) along its east, and Ellerslie Road to its south, commuting can be a breeze. Several major bus routes take Windermere commuters to the nearby Leger Transit Centre, located just steps from Terwillegar Recreation Centre.
