SOUTHWEST EDMONTON’S NEWEST FARMER’S MARKET

As a beam of sunlight suddenly poured into our kitchen I thought, “Did the clouds break? Because I need one.” So I left the chicken dinner on the stove and packed up the kids. But where to go in Windermere on a Tuesday evening?

Bookended by the Starbucks and Brown’s Social Hall, the Currents of Windermere Farmer’s Market runs every Tuesday evening from 4:30pm to 7:30pm and is a perfect place to find some family fun.

As soon as we got there I heard it: “Daddy! Daddy! Can I go on the slide?” My son was practically jumping out of his skin to go down RLT Technologies Inflatable Rental’s MASSIVE slide. Their deal is one slide for a dollar, or unlimited for five dollars, and can I make a suggestion? Just give them five bucks and save yourself the fight of trying to get your kid to leave after just one slide. It looks so fun even I was tempted.

Because my daughter is in a cast right now, she couldn’t go down the slide, but luckily Misty with the Balloon Fairies was there to make her day. She twisted up a top-notch unicorn for her in record time, and the poor thing forgot all about the slide she couldn’t play on.

Of course there are great vendors too! Keep in mind this is Windermere’s first year for this farmer’s market so this list is likely to get bigger:

-ROKA Wood Fire Pizza

-Steve and Dan’s Fresh BC Fruit

-Jewels by Amy

-Jerky Jerky

-Daisy Chain Book Co.

-Lois Hole Women’s Society (selling lovely clothing and accessories)

-Frida Antojitos Mexicanos

Despite the smaller list, this farmer’s market was quite busy with people eating pizza and chatting, or buying bags and bags of fruit (like I did), or standing around with a Mexican soda while their kids went bonkers on the inflatable slide. I suspect it won’t take long for other savvy vendors to join the list.

See you there next Tuesday!
