edmonton real estate market forecast 2021

In part 4 of our series on the RAE Housing Forecast Seminar 2021, we drill down on the purpose of the seminar: forecasting the year ahead. A bold thing to do in light of the uncertainty we all faced last year, and the aftershocks that a global pandemic has the potential to send into 2021.

“As you can imagine, putting a forecast together for 2021 has had unique challenges,” said Realtors Association of Edmonton Chair Tom Shearer. “We have witnessed varying degrees of confidence for what 2021 has in store, and economic perspectives on what may happen next vary considerably.”

Last year many economists were forecasting a drop in year-over-year and unit sales, volumes, and prices of homes. But, Shearer says, in the majority of major markets,…

“There is reason to believe that the situation will improve,” Tal said, “In fact, it might improve much faster than people expect, and it will be stronger than people expect.”

Some of the things that give us an advantage during this phase of lockdowns is that most…

A look back at 2020

A little while ago, a friend of mine shared one of those Facebook memories from four years ago. Oh, those pesky Facebook memories. We’ve all seen and shared them this year; snapshots of birthday parties or family dinners or concerts or tropical vacations. Photos of ourselves that seem to be from another world, doing things we miss terribly with people we miss even more. Those have been hard to see.

But this memory was a bit different.

This was a video of two women who had composed a hilarious song about how terrible of a year 2016 had been and how happy they were that it was finally coming to an end. And, I suppose, 2016 was bad wasn’t it? The polarization of people’s world views had escalated to a degree that no one could…
