The Quarters Edmonton Homes
“Nestled next to North America's largest stretch of urban parkland, The Quarters Downtown is positioned to become a vibrant, flourishing community.’ - City of Edmonton
âš« As per its name, The Quarters Downtown is a vibrant and colourful community made up of four “quarters.” The quarters are distinct districts centred around the Armature, a pedestrian-focused green street and the defining element for the community.
- The Civic Quarter.
- Heritage Quarter.
- McCauley Quarter.
- Five Corners Quarter.
Each one of these four sections has a character and design all its own.
Where is The Quarters Downtown?
âš« This 40-hectare (100 acre) area extends from 97 Street to 92 Street, and from 103A Avenue to the top of the North
Saskatchewan River Valley. Over the next 20 years, The Quarters Downtown will continue to be transformed into a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive community, taking advantage of its connectivity to the central business district, cultural districts, and river valley.
Culture and Inclusion in The Quarters Downtown
âš« This city-led redevelopment initiative began with a community visioning in 2006. This vision is that of a healthy and dynamic quarters community that respects the unique character of the existing neighbourhoods while welcoming new residents and new spaces.
âš« The area currently houses about 2,400 residents; however, at full development, The Quarters Downtown is expected to accommodate between 18,000 to 20,000 residents.
âš« The Quarters is planned around sustainable community design principles; meaning a mix of land uses and development forms, appealing design, and green spaces to create a unique experience for residents and visitors.
Planning The Quarters Downtown
âš« The redevelopment of The Quarters Downtown is guided by Council-approved documents, which provide the vision for the neighbourhood, the zoning, and the information about the Community Revitalization Levy that outlines the public infrastructure program necessary to encourage private sector investment.
âš« The City of Edmonton is using that Community Revitalization Levy to finance $99 million in infrastructure investments. These capital investments include upgrading drainage and sanitation services, handling the higher-density residential and commercial development, as well as streetscaping improvements and a new park design and construction. These projects are helping to transform The Quarters Downtown into a diverse and inclusive community.
Kinistinâw Park Project
âš« As part of The Quarters Downtown redevelopment, the City is working on a new park for the area called Kinistinâw Park.
This new park is intended to beautify the area, create a community space, and is likely to attract further redevelopment to the area.
Park Plans
- Improve connectivity to open spaces within the Quarters Downtown.
- Make the Armature and Kinistinâw Park a focal point and a year-round gathering place in the Quarters Downtown.
- Use environmentally friendly, sustainable landscape design practices.
- Ensure the publicly accessible open space is designed, maintained and managed to help keep it vibrant, safe and clean.
