About The Community of Riverbend

Riverbend is a highly desirable community located in Southwest Edmonton bordering the North Saskatchewan River. It is a mature community, perfect for both young and older families, professionals, and really anyone who wants to be out of the hustle and bustle of more central locations while remaining a short commute from places like Downtown, U of A, Whyte Ave, and West Edmonton Mall. Riverbend is a great community if you enjoy jogging, biking, walking, or just spending time outside. It is a community full of mature trees and is just a short walk to Edmonton’s world famous River Valley trail system. Riverbend is actually two different areas: “Old Riverbend” and “New Riverbend.” New Riverbend is the more southern portion of the community and homes here are a little newer (1990’s built). Old Riverbend is the northern half of the community and is a little more mature as homes in this area were built in the 1970’s. In either area, the beauty of the parks and homes are easy to appreciate. It is a community that cannot be described as “cookie cutter,” as many of the homes are quite unique.

Riverbend is home to many restaurants, shops and boutique shops. Riverbend Square is one of the locations where you will find all of your shopping and dining needs. Various restaurants, grocery store, pet store, liquor store, can all be found there. Riverbend is also just a short commute to Currents of Windermere where you will find all of you bug box stores, VIP Theatre and more.

Recreation/Community League/Services of Riverbend

Riverbend is home to various recreation and athletic facilities. Terwillegar Recreation Centre is a new facility located on 23 Ave just off Terwillegar Drive. It is a state of the art facility with everything one could need. Located right in the community of Brander Gardens is the Riverbend Athletic Club. They have a full gym and swimming pool, and are well known for their racket ball and squash courts. Riverbend community league is also a great way to stay active in the community. With many events, programs, sports, and facilities, you’ll be sure to find something for the whole family to enjoy.

Riverbend is also home to many services as well. There is an Edmonton public Library, Registry, Medicentre, Dynalife DX Diagnostic Centre, all located in Riverbend Square shopping Centre. There are also two veterinary Clinics as well.

Transportation in Riverbend

The community of Riverbend is conveniently located close to many of Edmonton’s major transportation roadways making commuting anywhere in the city a breeze. Riverbend is located just off of Whitemud Drive and Terwillegar Drive, and running right through its centre is Rabbit Hill Road. A couple minutes away from the Anthony Henday and short commute to Calgary Trail make this community a fantastic location no matter where your daily commute might take you. Commuting via public transportation isn’t a problem either. With both the South Campus and Southgate LRT stations a quick bus ride away, as well as several major bus routes running through the area, public transportation in this neighbourhood is extremely convenient and efficient.
